Afterschool snacks are great but even better if the children can help make them. This is a peanut butter and pretzel snack that is easy and fun to make.

Peanut Butter Pretzel Snacks: Line a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside Mix 1 cup creamy peanut butter with 2 Tbsp. of butter (softened). Add 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 3/4 cup brown sugar. (add more powdered sugar if too sticky). Roll the mixture into small balls and sandwich between two small pretzels. Continue until all the filling is used. Place filled pretzels into the freezer for 30 minutes. Melt 4 squares of chocolate almond bark in a double boiler. Stir until smooth. Dip each pretzel sandwich into the melted chocolate to coat half and place on wax covered tray. Let sit until the chocolate is set. Store in an airtight container.

Worthwhile Club: The Worthwhile Club of Medimont luncheon and meeting is Sept. 21 at noon at the home of Kathi David.

Bingo: Community Bingo is Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Harrison Grange Hall. The cost is $10 for 10 cards. All ages welcome.

Quilting: The Grange Grannies Quilting Club is meeting Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Medicine Mountain Grange Hall in Medimont. Bible Studies: The Tuesday Ladies Bible Study will begin Sept. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Harrison Community Baptist Church. There will be a light breakfast, prayer, bible study, workbook and discussion. Contact Gwen Wadley, 208-245-3019 by Sept. 19 to order a book for the bible study.

The Thursday Women’s Bible Study is Sept. 22. They are offering 2 times to attend; from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Harrison Community Baptist Church library and from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Osprey In. The Men’s Iron2Iron Fellowship is Sept. 22 at 6:15 a.m. at the Harrison Community Baptist Church. They meet every Thursday morning.

Teens: The Teen Wednesday Night Youth Group is on every Wednesday at 6 p.m. the Harrison Community Baptist Church. A light supper will be provided. It is open for students in Jr./Sr. High.

Bluegrass Concert: The Brothers Barton Bluegrass band will be performing Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. at the Harrison Community Baptist Church. This free concert is open on a first come, first serve basis. The band from Bakersfield, Calif. has shared the stage with the likes of Richard Greene, Gabe Witcher, Christian Ward and other notable artists. With Paul on mandolin and Loren on guitar, they dazzle your eyes with their flying fingers and soothe your soul with haunting vocals. Their amazing musical talent and killer song writing continue to blaze their own trail in bluegrass and new acoustic music.

Oktoberfest: The Fifteenth Annual Harrison Oktoberfest is Oct. 1 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Harrison City Park. There will be street vendors with food, arts and crafts. Live music will be from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Duo Opener will play from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. followed by Lucky Tongue from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Kids activities include giant Jenga, painting station bouncy houses, donut eating contest, penny scramble, scavenger hunt and more. Air Force Band: The US Air Force Band will perform at the Kootenai High School Gym Oct. 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are required but are free of charge. To obtain tickets, visit Eventbrite.com.

PTO: The Harrison Elementary PTO meeting is Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Items on the agenda include: Bookfair, Trunk-or-Treat, Fall/Winter fundraisers, Holiday bazaar, and upcoming field trips.

Homecoming: This is Kootenai Homecoming week. Students can dress up today, Sept. 21 as High School Stereotypes; Sept. 22, Halloween costumes and Sept. 23, Hawaiian. The Homecoming game against Clark Fork will begin on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.

Christmas Child: The Christmas Child Shoebox Project through Samaritan’s Purse is coming soon. The shoeboxes are filled with school supplies, hygiene items, toys and clothing items. The boxes will be shipped to children all over the world. Items for the boxes need to be purchased now. The Harrison Community Baptist Church has an Amazon shopping list available at www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/38I7GKDN66NA3?ref_+wl_share , the items will be shipped directly to Julie Gunderson, project coordinator.

Items can also be purchased at the store; toothbrushes (individually packaged), floss, flip flops, socks, underwear, school supplies, baby dolls, toy cars, small stuffed animals, games, etc. The packing party will be on Nov. 12.
